The way I see it, there are two ways to interpret Nobody.

Interpretation #1: This is a well-made action movie with an anti-heroic, against-type performance from Bob Odenkirk.

Interpretation #2: This is a contrived, slightly embarrassing fantasy appealing to boomers.

I fall into the Interpretation #2 camp. Although I liked Odenkirk’s performance, and the action is well shot, I found the movie and the character to be the exact opposite of what the writer, Derek Kolstad, was probably aiming for.

Anti-heroes should actually be fucked up. Take Die Hard’s John McClane: He’s a bad husband whose kids don’t like him. His marriage is failing, and he looks shit (if shit had smoked 10,000 cigarettes).

Odenkirk’s character, Hutch, likes sipping whiskey neat while listening to classic rock LPs after a long day at work.

Nobody cares. Or at least I didn’t.
